Barry Dock Lifeboat Station (based in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales) opened in 1901[1]. In 1922, the station received its first motor lifeboat and in 1973 the station received a second lifeboat (which was eventually withdrawn from service in 1979)

The station then received a series of three different Arun class lifeboats. The station currently operates a Trent class lifeboat called Inner Wheel II.

Gold Medal - 1907

A Gold Medal was awarded to Mr Daniel Rees for the rescue of three people from the yacht Firefly.

Silver Medal - 1907

A Silver Medal was awarded to Mr Ivor Rees for the rescue of three people from the yacht Firefly.

The Thanks of the Institution inscribed on Vellum - 1907

The Thanks of the Institution Inscribed on Vellum to Mr D Morgan Rees for the rescue of three people from the yacht Firefly.

Framed Letter of Thanks - 1907

A Special Letter of Thanks was sent to Mr Harold M Lloyd for the rescue of three people from the yacht Firefly.

Silver Medal - 1914

A Silver Medal was awarded to Pilot Apprentice Daniel P Davies for rescuing two men from the ketch Elizabeth Couch.

Silver Medal - 1935

A Silver Medal was awarded to the Honorary Secretary/Acting Coxswain Archibald C Jones for a dangerous service to rescue six crew from the schooner Goeland.

Bronze Medal x 7 - 1935

Bronze Medals were awarded to Second Coxswain Henry Hobbs, Mechanic Hewitt Swarts and Crew Members Stanley Alexander, Thomas Alexander, William Cook, Henry Housden and Frederick Searle for a dangerous service to rescue six crew from the schooner Goeland.

Silver Medal - 1941

A Bronze Medal was awarded to Coxswain David Lewis for rescuing 10 people from the steamer South Coaster during a gale on 6 December 1940.

MBE - 2003

Mr Ted Powell, Station Honorary Secretary, was awarded an MBE in Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Station Fatalities

Coxswain Swarts died while working on the Watson class lifeboat 'Rachel and Mary Evans' when he fell to the concrete floor of the boathouse.
